Empowering 1st Generation Voices
We’re here to celebrate our roots, honor our journey, and remind ourselves that our voice matters.
A Journey of Growth and Identity
I came to Nashville at three years old, undocumented and unaware of the challenges that would shape my life. Growing up, I carried the lessons of my heritage alongside the pressure to succeed in a world that often felt unfamiliar. I’ve experienced both pride and uncertainty, but those moments have defined who I am today.
For a long time, I thought I needed to follow a traditional path—becoming a lawyer, achieving stability, checking all the boxes. But my journey took unexpected turns, leading me to a career in HR where I discovered my love for people, stories, and connection. It wasn’t the plan, but it turned out to be exactly what I needed.
"Voz and Valor" was born from this journey. It’s a space to reflect, share, and celebrate the complexities of being first-generation. The hurdles, the triumphs, and the in-between moments matter. They shape us, and they’re worth sharing.
This is more than a project—it’s a piece of my heart. If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t fit into a mold, this is for you. Let’s embrace our stories and build something meaningful together.
Stories That Shape Us
Legacy of Dreams
Our parents and relatives laid the groundwork with their sacrifices, passing on dreams they may never fully see realized. While their hopes guide us, we’re tasked with defining our own paths and living lives that honor their resilience.
Our Voices Matter
Every story matters, and sharing yours could resonate in ways you never imagined. Whether first-generation or not, your experiences hold the power to inspire, connect, and even transform someone else’s perspective. Together, our voices are stronger.
Finding Your Place at Work
When you’re the first to enter a professional world, it can feel overwhelming. But being first doesn’t mean you’re alone. From learning the unspoken rules to figuring out how to thrive, every step forward is a victory—not just for you, but for those who’ll follow.
